Joana Schneider creëert ruimtelijke installaties en sculpturale omgevingen die een duurzaam contact met organische materialen tot uitdrukking brengen. Schneiders op materialen gebaseerde benadering eert arbeidsintensieve technieken en maakt de Nederlandse ambachtslieden tot het centrale middel in haar oeuvre. Technieken zoals borduren, passementerie en tapijt maken zijn haar specialiteit, waarbij ze deze combineert met traditionele netwerktechnieken zoals pluisnetten en klosknopen. Haar ruime, soms onheilspellende installaties spreken de zintuigen van de toeschouwers op vele manieren aan: visueel, tactiel en door de natuurlijke geur.

Artistic Installations
Joana Schneider creates spacious installations and sculptural environments that present a sustainable contact with organic materials while shedding light on local creativity and industry. Schneider’s material-based approach pays tribute to labour-intensive techniques and makes the Dutch craftsmen central means throughout her oeuvre. Techniques such as embroidery, passementerie and tapestry making is her specialty which she combines with traditional net making techniques such as pluis netting and dolly knotting. Her spacious, sometimes uncanny installations appeal to the viewers’ senses in many respects: visually, tactically and through its natural smell.
